There has been big debate over AuthServ or NickServ, and I would finally like to get this debate out of the way.
Firstly I would like to point out reasons why AuthServ is not only good for the users of IHNIirc, but also good for the network itself.
- AuthServ lowers the size of the databases (ie- not having a whole bunch of nicks grouped to an account), allowing IHNIirc to grow it's member base.
- AuthServ allows users to login to their account from up to 5 different clients without the need for grouped nicks.
- AuthServ allows a user to use whatever nick they are feeling at the moment, without having to group that nick to the account (ie- One account, covers every nick that you wish to ever use).
- AuthServ, while not providing nickname protection, will however add a line to your /whois telling people what account you are logged in as, and not only this, but so will your hostname, (ie- "nick!ident@/group/users/account-name").
However you feel about AuthServ, if you like or dislike it, please post your opinion on the poll at http://I-Have-No.Info/authserv-or-nickserv.
No matter what you think, your vote counts, and we hope to see your votes so that we can verify them all this coming Friday.
Instead of posting your comments here, why not vote for your opinion?
